As India is witnessing a number of developments relating to COVID-19 each day, here are the top 10 updates this Friday morning.
1. An increase of 547 new COVID19 cases and 30 deaths in the last 12 hours. The total number of confirmed positive cases in the country has now jumped to 6,412. These include 5,709 active cases while 504 have been discharged/cured till date. The death toll in the country is 199, as per the figures from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
2. Following confirmation of multiple coronavirus positive cases in Gurugram, the district administration has decided to seal nine localities by identifying them as Containment Zones. This follows similar action in Delhi and Noida.
3. Odisha became the first state to extend the ongoing lockdown till April 30. Four more have tested positive while state tally stands at 48. 4,000 testing kits have been airlifted from Mumbai to Odisha.
4. A 65-year-old person passed away in Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Assam due to COVID-19 infection, says Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
5. St. Michael’s Church in Mahim, Mumbai remains closed on Good Friday.
6. Uttarakhand announces Rs 10 lakh compensation to next of kin of officials, staff who lose lives to COVID-19.
7. Air India Chairman and Managing Director, Rajiv Bansal acknowledges his colleagues for their selfless contribution towards serving the cause of India and humanity at large during the global coronavirus pandemic.
8. The Centre has sanctioned Rs 15,000 cr COVID-19 emergency package for states.
9. The India Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has revised its testing strategy for COVID-19 in which ‘asymptomatic direct and high-risk contacts of a confirmed case should be tested once between days 5 and day 14 of coming in his/her contact’.
10. 21 more cases in Vadodara; total tally stands at 39 in the city.
