What is Bhilwara model to stop COVID-19?

The Bhilwara district in Rajasthan was among the most affected places in India during the first phase of the COVID-19 outbreak.

But after the Bhilwara district administration took steps now touted as the ‘Bhilwara model’ to the contain the disease, it saw a drop in the number of cases.

The measures taken by the Rajasthan government include imposing a curfew in the district which also barred essential services, extensive screening and house-to-house surveys to check for possible cases. It also includes detailed contact tracing of each positive case so as to create a dossier on.

The district administration has fixed timings for the supply of items to every doorstep in a bid to prevent people from venturing out.

The ruthless containment strategy has been in place since March 20 and worked successfully so far in dropping the rate of infections. The administration still not taking any chances as, since April 3, curfew has been extended with even more curbs than before.

After the success of the model, it reported only one positive case since March 30. The textile city’s 27th COVID-19 case was reported on April 4.

The total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Bhilwara now stands at 27, while the entire Rajasthan recorded 363 cases so far, including 45 who have recovered.
