Don’t believe this morphed picture of PM Modi; here’s the truth

Date:

A picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is doing the rounds on social media in which he can be seen holding a placard. The text on the placard is in Hindi and reads that ‘a priest in Kedarnath told him that he will become Prime Minister thrice’.

The text in Hindi read: “केदारनाथ जी के पंडित जी ने कहा की में लगातार ३ बार प्रधानमंत्री बनूँगा| क्या आप सभी भी यही चाहते है”

(Translation: Panditji of Kedarnath ji said that I will become Prime Minister 3 times in a row. Do you all want the same?)

At the time of filing this report, the above post was shared by over 1,100 Facebook users.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above picture and found it to be FAKE.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we came across a news report by Financial Express dated September 26, 2014, featuring a similar picture of the Prime Minister.

In the original picture, PM Modi was actually holding a brochure of ‘Make In India’ while unveiling its logo on September 25, 2014.

The above FAKE vs REAL collage confirms that the text on the placard was manipulated using photo editing software.

Hence, the viral picture in circulation is FAKE.
