Top government sources have confirmed to NewsMobile Editor in Chief Saurabh Shukla that the 21-day national lockdown may be extended further to deal with the surge in the number of COVID-19 positive cases.
As per sources, many Chief Ministers have written to the Union Government requesting it to extend the lockdown.
The government is of the view that ensuring the survival of the people is the immediate priority.

However, a final decision regarding the duration of the extension is yet to be taken. It is learn that Prime Minister has been seized of the matter and is consulting the experts regarding this matter.
However, depending on the situation, certain sectors may be permitted to function. This will be in addition to the existing essential services that are already being permitted to function.
The necessity for this extension of the lockdown has been due to the surge in the number of positive cases and deaths.
The surge in numbers came after the Tablighi Jamaat gathering episode came to light and ever since the government has been engaged in a massive exercise to trace those who attended the Jamaat congregation in Nizammudin in Delhi.
Many readers of NewsMobile have written in supporting this decision of the government saying that social distancing will have to be strictly enforced.
India has reported 4421 Covid-19 positive cases and 114 deaths so far.
