COVID-19: Top 10 Global Developments this Saturday Morning

More than half of the total world population is in a state of lockdown. With rising number of positive cases, the world is grappling with the virus and the effects of its spread.

Here are the top 10 global developments this Saturday Morning,

1. The total number of COVID-19 cases stands at 1,098,848 and the total number of deaths at 58,871.

2. The positive fact from the above-mentioned numbers is that around quarter of the total number of cases have recovered. The total number of recoveries recovered till date stands at 226,106.

3. The US reported over 30,000 new cases due to enhanced protocols in place.

4. The US continues to the new epicentre of the virus with over a quarter of the total number of cases being reported. The total number of positive cases stands at 276,995. The administration is being criticized for not having a uniform policy of social distancing. Some states have enforced a complete lockdown, whereas others are maintaining the bare minimum social distancing norm. This confusion has cost over 6000 American lives.

5. The European Union as a bloc has well over half of the total number of cases that have been reported. Italy is reporting the greatest number of cases. However, Spain is threatening to overtake Italy and emerge as a new hotspot in Europe. It also has over more than half of the total number of causalities.

6. British Health Secretary said that his nation hopes to reach the milestone of testing over 100,000 people by the end of April, even as the National Health Service (NHS) is burdened with a crumbling infrastructure.

7. Singapore has announced a state of lockdown with growing number of positive cases. Only essential services will function. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced on television.

8. In an act of complete ignorance and malicious negligence, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said that it is not possible to lockdown a nation of 220 million people. Last time, the same announcement was over ruled by his Masters in Rawalpindi who enforced a temporary lockdown.

9. The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution against COVID-19 and called for intensified international cooperation in the fight against this deadly virus.

10. Former Foreign Secretary of India Nirupama Rao in an exclusive interview with NewsMobile Editor in Chief Saurabh Shukla said that the handling of the Wuhan virus could have been better had China been proactive and transparent in its disclosures.
