Life in the times of Coronavirus: A 13-year-old’s tips on activities to engage in

Date:

These days we are all faced by the colossal challenge posed by the cornavirus pandemic. It is a time when we must unite and sail through it together.

If we look at it positively, it is also an opportunity in disguise. An opportunity to pick up things that we have been wanting to indulge in but haven’t found the time to.

I, for instance, have picked up embroidery. Embroidery is a form of art, that really doesn’t allow you to gauge how much time has passed as you adorn the fabric, which makes it both fun and pragmatic at the same time.

I started by practicing a few beginner stitches like the rice stitch and the lazy daisy stitch and went on to harder ones such as the woven wheel stitch and French knots. Soon after, I started making projects both with my own imagination and by using reference images from the internet. Although embroidery may look intimidating but learning its’ nuances isn’t that difficult.

Also, I have been making use of this time to set up my YouTube channel called ‘ScienceIsEasy’. Today children are sitting at home and it is imperative that our learning doesn’t stop. Keeping this in mind, I, with the help of my parents, have regularly been posting educational videos on my channel. These educational videos mainly revolve around Science topics covered in Grades 5-9.

Every video has an introduction to the topic, explains the scientific process involved and gives helpful tips and tricks in relation to the topic.

It is often said that teaching is the best way to learn, and that has been my effort too. Along with helping my peers around the world, I too am revising through these videos.

Lastly, I have always wanted to take up learning how to play an instrument and this was my chance to learn how to play an electric guitar. I had been using online resources to learn but was never able to practice as other activities took away a lot of my time. Now that I have more time at hand, I have starting practicing in full swing.

I would like to conclude by saying that though this is a time when we must take all possible precautions and leave no stone unturned to stay safe, we must also read between the lines and take this opportunity to discover some of our hidden talents.
