COVID-19: White House reports first case; Italy now has more deaths reported than Hubei

The White House has reported its first positive case of Coronavirus as the number of positive cases in United States crossed 19,000. Also, the number of deaths in Italy has crossed that of Hubei, whose capital Wuhan is the epicentre of the virus.

In U.S, a member in the team of Vice-President Mike Pence has tested positive. However, it has been confirmed that neither US President Donald Trump nor Vice-President Mike Pence interacted with the affected individual.

“This evening we were notified that a member of the office of the Vice President tested positive for the coronavirus,” Katie Miller, Press Secretary to Vice President, said in a statement.

This is the first such case being reported from the White House.

Last week, Trump tested negative for the virus. The test had to be carried out after his meeting with the Brazilian delegation led by President Jair Bolsonaro, of which one member tested positive.

US has reported about 19,600 positive cases and over 230 deaths.

Globally, the total number of cases as of Saturday stands at around 275,434 cases and the total number of deaths has crossed 11,399.

Europe has emerged as the new epicentre of the virus. While China has a total number of 81,286 Covid-19 cases, European countries like Italy (47,021 cases), Spain (27,571 cases) and Germany (19,848 cases) put together have crossed the total number of cases China has reported.

For the first time, the number of total deaths in Italy has crossed that of Hubei.

Italy has reported a total number of 4032 deaths whereas Hubei has reported a total number of 3,139 cases.
