COVID-19: Inter-Ministerial confusion delays arrival of Indians from Netherlands

Date:

According to a report from “The Hindu”, an inter-Ministerial confusion has led to a KLM Royal Dutch airways flight operating from Amsterdam- New Delhi being not permitted to land in Delhi on early Saturday morning.

The aircraft that was carrying about 100 Indians including a pregnant woman was turned away when it was flying over Russia and denied clearance to land in New Delhi.

This was caused due to different interpretation of a circular issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Earlier this week, India had suspended all flight services from EU, Britain, EUFFA nations, Turkey, Malaysia and Philippines.

The Ministry of External Affairs cleared the arrival of the flight from Amsterdam which consisted of Indian passengers from North America who were just transiting through Amsterdam. However, the Ministry of Civil Aviation asked the airline to turn back when it was flying over Russia.

The flight was also supposed to return to Amsterdam with Dutch nationals based out of India.

The passengers in Amsterdam and New Delhi are a worried lot as the Government of India has announced that no international flight will operate from March 22 which includes both departure and arrivals.

This issue is expected to be resolved by Saturday before the ban on international flights is enforced from Sunday.

The relatives of the woman has reported that she had to be admitted to the hospital after landing in Amsterdam due to development of certain complications. Her family has appealed to all authorities to help in her rescue. She is believed to be six months pregnant.
