The Congress targeted former BJP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan of leading this conspiracy. However, this was denied vehemently by him. He pointed towards factionalism within the Congress party.

Kamal Nath has the support of 120 MLA’s in a Legislative Assembly whose strength is 230. Congress won 114 seats and BJP won 109 in the elections conducted to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
