Raveesh Kumar, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs said in this regard:

” The Citizenship Amendment Act is an internal matter of India and concerns the sovereign right of the Indian parliament to make laws. We strongly believe that no foreign party has any locus standi on issues pertaining to India;s sovereignty”.

He also said that the government is confident of this law surviving the scrutiny of the Supreme Court and also that this law is in sync with the ethos of India and its commitment to human rights. He also said that this law arises from the tragedy of partition.

He said: We are clear that the CAA is constitutionally valid and complies with all requirements of our constitutional values. It is reflective of our long standing national commitment in respect of human rights issues arising from the tragedy of the partition of India”.

This action by the UN body is also in contravention of Article 1 of the UN Charter which lays down the objectives of the UN and clearly forbids any sort of interference in the internal matters of any nation and its sovereign rights.
