Date:

In the wake of the global spread of Coronavirus, Twitter staff across the world has been asked to work from home. This is applicable from Monday onwards and is a bid to stop the spread of the deadly epidemic.

Right after the outbreak happened in Mainland China in December, it is now a global fear. As of now, approx. 3100 people have died and more than 90,000 have been infected. Almost all the major countries that have been affected, have issued a travel advisory restricting the movement of their citizens.

With Twitters new call to ask its staff to avoid the office, it brings forth the spread and seriousness of the epidemic.
“We are strongly encouraging all employees globally to work from home if they’re able,” Twitter human resources chief Jennifer Christie said in a Monday blog post. “Our goal is to lower the probability of the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus for us — and the world around us.”

She further added that working from home will be mandatory for employees at the company’s South Korea, Hong Kong, and Japan offices.
South Korea has recorded nearly 5,000 confirmed COVID-19 infections, the largest number outside mainland China. They have reported 28 deaths. Japan’s government has requested closure of schools nationwide and employers to give their staff permission to work remotely.
Most civil servants in Hong Kong returned to work on Monday after they were asked to work from home for a month. The financial hub has had 100 positive cases so far.

Earlier, Twitter had also suspended ‘non-critical’ business travel and events.
