India’s capital, Delhi, gets its first Coronavirus case; Union Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan confirms

India’s capital, New Delhi has confirmed its first case of Coronavirus or the COVID-19. In a press statement, the Ministry of Health confirmed this.

Three new cases of Coronavirus have emerged in India. One in the national capital, New Delhi, the other in Telangana and the third in Jaipur. However, the Ministry of Health has said that the patients are stable and being closely monitored.

“A passenger landed in Jaipur from Italy on Feb 29. He was admitted to the isolation ward at a hospital after he showed symptoms of COVID-19 in the screening. He had tested negative. However, he tested positive in second testing”, said Rajasthan Health Minister Raghu Sharma.

“He has been put in isolation ward of SMS Hospital. His samples will be sent again for testing since two different results were found in different tests. People who came in his contact till Feb 29 will also be screened for COVID-19”, he added.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has also ascertained this and said that 2 positive cases of Coronavirus have come up, each in Delhi and Telangana. Their travel history is from Italy and Dubai. The total positive cases in India till now stands at 5.

He said that as the situation develops, the travel restrictions may be further extended to other countries also. Screening of passengers is being conducted at 21 airports, 12 major seaports, and 65 minor seaports. 5, 57,431 passengers have been screened so far at airports and 12,431 passengers have been screened on minor and major seaports.

Under the travel advisory, existing visas including e-visas will remain suspended for China and Iran. As the situation develops, the travel restrictions may be further extended to other countries also.

Worldwide the global death toll in the deadly Coronavirus outbreak has reached the 3000 mark. Even, Washington state health officials have reported a second death in the United States.

In Italy, the death toll has risen to 34 as five new deaths have been reported. The number of people infected with the Coronavirus has reached 1,577.

In Iran, the outbreak has reached mammoth levels. Number of Coronavirus cases have neared 1,000 and the cases that have tested positive are now at 978 over the past 24 hours. 54 people have died from the disease.

The WHO has declared the Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, as a health emergency.
