Date:

Ankit Sharma, an officer of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) working as a security assistant was killed in the Chand Bagh area of East Delhi, according to ANI reports.

According to other media reports, the officer joined the premier Intelligence Bureau in 2017.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Police to provide security to the family members of the deceased officer and also during the funeral.

The court lashed out at both the Centre and the Delhi government, questioning their delay in deploying police forces and asked them to reach out and assure the people of Delhi of their safety.

The court said: “we will not let another 1984 happen under our watch”.

The Cabinet Committee on Security has also met and decided to entrust the return of normalcy and law and order situation in the capital to Ajit Doval, the National Security Advisor.

A political slugfest broke out earlier in the day when Indian National Congress (INC) interim President Sonia Gandhi blamed the Centre and the Delhi government for the violence and called for the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Immediately, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javdekar, in a presser, termed Sonia Gandhi’s statement as unfortunate.
