Kem chho Trump! India all set to welcome US Prez, major trade deals on the anvil

US President Donald Trump will be on a two- day visit to India from February 24-25 and he will be accompanied by his wife Melania Trump. This visit will include a visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat. India also hopes to announce a trade deal during this important visit.

Advanced preparations are being made to ensure the success of this visit.

On the official front, important agreements related to trade and airport logistics is being considered. The Indian side hopes to secure a trade deal and the restoration of the GSP status which has been suspended since 2018.

The US is keen on sharing an Airport logistics agreement which will permit the US airliners operating out of India to participate in the ground handling operations. This till date isn’t permitted by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The logistical end of the visit is also being paid attention to. The President is expected to visit Ahmedabad, where an event bigger than ‘Howdy Modi’ is being planned.

The ‘Howdy Modi’ event held in Texas in October 2019 was successful in many ways. The event where PM Narendra Modi addressed more than 65,000 members of the Indian diaspora also saw President Trump and other key members of the US senate joining in.

The event also reset the relations between the two oldest and the largest democracies.

During this visit, the US President is also expected to visit Agra, however this is yet to be confirmed.
