If the politics in Delhi elections wasn’t confusing enough, its now the names of candidates that is leaving voters baffled!
Three namesake candidates are contesting from the same Sadar Bazar constituency, two individuals with the name Imran Khan (also the name of the Pakistani Prime Minister) are contesting from neighbouring constituencies and another with the name Nathu Ram.
The two Imran Khans are both contesting on a ticket issued by a lesser known party, the Tipu Sultan party. Imran khan is contesting from Karawal Nagar constituency and Imran Matlub Khan is contesting from the Mustafad constituency and they both have claimed to be confident of winning the elections.
The Sadar Bazar constituency is staring at a complex and unique situation. Three namesake individuals are contesting the elections. The seat will see Somdutt from the AAP and independent candidates Somdutt (symbol- ice cream) and Somdutt (symbol-symbol brush) also as contenders. This is going to confuse the voters for sure.
Nathu Ram has been fielded from the Wazipur constituency by the Communist Party of India (CPI) Marxist.
Some of the other candidates include Vikas from the Aapki Apni Party (Peoples) from Model Town constituency and Ishwar, an independent candidate from Delhi cantonment.
Another woman candidate with a unique name [email protected] Bimla is contesting from the Sabse Badi party, fighting from Shahdara constituency.
Akshay Kumar (not the actor) is contesting from the Kondli seat.
Some of the unusual party names are the following: Mazdoor Ekta Party and Aapki Apni Party.
Every election has its own unique characteristics which is bound to create the much needed humour in tense circumstances and the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections 2020 is no different.
