Govt to fund travel expenses of tourists who visit 15 destinations in the country? Ministry refutes claims

A message has been circulation on social media which claims that the Centre will fund travel expenses of Indians who travel to 15 tourist destinations by 2022, under the ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ campaign.

Newsobile fact-checked the above post and found the claim to be false.

The news started circulating after the Union Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel said, “The tourism ministry will fund the travel expenses of tourists who visit 15 destinations in the country in a year and submit the photos on our website.”

However, after the reports, in a press note, the Ministry of Tourism clarified that the ministry has “has no scheme for funding the travel expenses of tourists for visiting destinations in the country under the Dekho Apna Desh Campaign.”

The press note also added that the ministry “proposes to give recognition to select domestic travellers who undertake a visit to various tourist destinations in the country through random selection for which details are being finalised.”

This proves that viral message is false.
