Delhi polls: AAP releases its manifesto, promises quality education, health

Date:

The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday released its manifesto for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled to be held on February 8.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP guaranteed quality education, health, clean water, 24-hour electricity to Delhiites in its manifesto.

Releasing the manifesto, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said that the party they will continue the effort for passage of Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill if it comes to power.

“The Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill which was passed in Delhi Vidhan Sabha in 2015, has been pending with the central government for the last 4 years. The AAP government will continue its struggle to get the Bill passed,” Sisodia said.

The party also promised Rs 1 crore relief to kin of sanitation workers who died while performing their duties. “If a sanitation worker dies during duty then his/her family will be given financial assistance of Rs 1 crore,” Sisodia said.

He also said: “We will establish 24×7 markets on a pilot basis in key commercial areas where shops, restaurants, etc. can remain open round the clock.”

He also talked of starting a ‘deshbhakti’ curriculum in schools, saying that such a programme will help to inculcate a sense of nationalism, love for armed forces and respect for tricolour among the students.

Besides, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal challenged the BJP to declare its chief ministerial candidate and offered to debate, saying: “I would like to tell BJP that people of Delhi want the BJP to declare a Chief Ministerial candidate and I am ready to debate with that person.”

Both the Congress and the BJP have already released their manifestos.  In January, AAP national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had released ‘Kejriwal Ka Guarantee Card’ which included promises to continue 200 units of free electricity, Mohalla marshals and 24×7 clean water to every resident of the national capital.

The AAP chief had said that his government would continue the existing 20,000 litres free water and promised to provide 24-hour clean water in the next five years.

Polling on 70 Assembly seats of Delhi will be held on February 8 and the counting of votes will take place on February 11.
