Date:

This January’s Australian Open will mark the 108th time that the Australian Open will be held, and is all set to kick off in Melbourne and end on February 2nd and will mark the first Grand Slam of the tennis season. With the Serb being the favourite and the most likely to emerge glorious this time around as well, Novak Djokovic won his 7th AO title in 2019 beating the current world number 1 in straight sets, but anything is bound to happen in this sport so here are the contenders to look out for in the AO 2020:

Successfully reaching 3 of the last 5 men’s singles finals of Australian Open and has emerged glorious every time he has reached the final. Not only that, he hasn’t lost any major tournament in which he has reached the final, and tough to beat this unstoppable force if he reaches the final of AO 2020, which is a high possibility.

Roger Federer

Only one trophy short of Djokovic’s, the Swiss legend has his eyes locked on the AO 2020 trophy and has every intention to reach the same level as Djokovic before pulling the curtains on his career. Before entering the tournament, there will be talking about his age and fitness and it is acceptable but it’s the legend we are talking about if Federer shows up for a game, he sure knows how to pack some tricks up his sleeve and shun his opponents that makes him the most experienced on the court with high chance to emerge victoriously.

Rafael Nadal

The current world number 1 is determined to stay in that place and after a strong 2019 finish, he is in high momentum to finish off the first grand slam of 2020 with a terrific win and a redeem himself after a straight-sets loss last year against Djokovic. Rafa won his last AO Grand slam in 2004 and since then reached the final 4 times but evidently lost, but this time he is categorized as the second favourite to steal the trophy with pure class and hopefully come equal to his old nemesis, Roger Federer’s 20 Grand slam victories.

Alexander Zverev

The young blood that turned pro in 2013 with a spot of number 7 in the world is the player to look out for at AO 2020. The young lad has given people a run for their money and has given the big names in the world of tennis a tough competition, Zverev has defeated Roger Federer and knocked him out of the tournament. With 2 career titles, his agility could turn some heads in the tournament and maybe do the unexpected.

Serena Williams

The unquestioned legend, Serena has a lot to prove this time at the AO 2020 and she will lift the cup after 2017 and finally break the drought to her grand slam victories since the time she has returned after giving birth. After back to back losses in the finals last year, she said, ‘I just need to figure out a way to win the final’ and maybe this is it, the first grand slam of the season could be her breakthrough, she is still the top contender to look out for at the AO 2020.
