In the midsts of the ongoing indefinite protest in New Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh against Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019, a picture is doing rounds on social media which features a few women protestors and a banner in the background.
The text on the banner read: “Fix Rate Rs 500/- Day 7 pm to 12 pm Shaheen Bagh”
The caption with the picture read: “Our fixed rate is RS 500/ from 7 pm to 12 o’clock night,no bargaining and over and above this we offer some extra services as per services asked for price depends on services ( don’t misunderstand extra services that includes abusing to modi by children,and singing poems,etc and other desirous services on demand )”
FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above picture and found it to be FAKE.
On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we came across several news reports which featured the same picture but had different text on the banner. On digging further we found the same picture on the official website of Getty Images.
The text on the banner actually read- “CAA वापस लो, NRC वापस लो”. The picture was taken on January 7th, 2020.
In the above FAKE vs REAL collage, it is clear that the original picture was manipulated using a photo editing software to create a FAKE picture.
