Administration acts ‘party spoiler’ for eateries on Bengaluru-Mysuru road; cites increase in crime

Date:

The Deputy Commissioner of Ramnagar, Karnataka, M S Archana, has issued an order on Wednesday calling upon all eateries, liquor shops and resorts located on Mysore road to shut down by 11.00 PM as law and order problems were being witnessed, even as it remains a popular hangout zone amongst the residents of not only Bengaluru but also Mysuru.

The residents of the city often visit these popular eating joints and resorts that have mushroomed along the highway between Bengaluru and Mysuru.

In an official order, the Deputy Commissioner has said that a number of eateries, dhabas, resorts and liquor shops had come up all along the highway with numerous people visiting them. The authorities felt these could have been a reason for a rise in crime such as 66 murders, 14 robberies, 53 attempt to robbery, 55 extortion, 12 chain snatching and 665 night theft cases had occurred in the Ramnagar area ( quoted for the period September 2015 to September 2019). Hence all shops and establishments will have to now be closed from 11 PM to 6 AM.

Many students and working professionals have expressed their disappointment at this closure and called it a restrictive policy.

They slammed the district administration pointing out to the fact that it is the duty of the police and the district administration to maintain law and order and not curb activities which aren’t illegal.
