MEA slams Pakistan’s anti-CAA resolution

Date:

The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday rejected the resolution passed by the Pakistan National Assembly on the issue of the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.

It rejected the resolution as a “thinly veiled attempt to further its false narrative on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh”.

It further added that, “It seeks to provide justification for Pakistan’s unrelenting for cross border terror activities in India”.

The MEA also in a statement pointed out that this resolution was an attempt to hide their own appalling treatment of their minorities and the demographics of these minorities be it the Hindus, Christians, Sikhs amongst others speak for themselves.

Earlier on Monday, the Pakistan National Assembly had unanimously adopted a resolution moved by the Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood. The resolution condemned India’s passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 and termed it as discriminatory towards the Muslims.

The resolution had termed it as encouraging ‘dangerous tendencies’.

In recent times, Pakistan has continuously been commenting on India’s internal matters. Everyone including the President Dr Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Imran Khan Niazi and DG (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor have either issued statements or have tweeted questioning India’s sovereignty.

Both houses of the Indian parliament have passed the legislation and it has received the President’s assent.

The legislation seeks to provide citizenship to members belonging to the following communities: Hindus, Christians, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs and Zoroastrians from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who have arrived in India on or before December 31st, 2014.
