Maharashtra to have Deputy CM from NCP, Speaker from Congress: Praful Patel

The post of Speaker of Maharashtra Assembly will go to Congress and Deputy Chief Minister’s post will be held by the Nationalist Congress Party, senior NCP leader Praful Patel said late on Wednesday.

After attending a meeting of NCP-Congress-Shiv Sena MLAs in Mumbai, Patel said: “There will be only one deputy chief minister. That will be from NCP. Speaker of the Assembly will be from the Congress.”

He further said that it has not decided yet how many ministers will take oath with Chief Minister on Thursday. Uddhav Thackeray, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Congress leader Ahmed Patel were present at the meeting of Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena MLAs.

Earlier in the day, pro tem Speaker Kalidas Kolambkar administered the oath to the 288 newly-elected legislators at a special session of the legislative assembly convened by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari.

On the other hand, Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray reached Delhi to invite Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh for the swearing-in ceremony of Uddhav Thackeray as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
