Amid the recent protests in the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) over the hostel fee hike, a picture with a text is making rounds on social media according to which a JNU student broke his iPhone 11 out anger over the hike of hostel fees.

The exact text with the picture of an iPhone read: “A JNU student breaks his iPhone 11 in Anger because of hike in the hostel…”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be false.

On putting the above headline on the picture through a simple Google search, we came across an article with the exact same headline on a website called ‘the fauxy‘ dated November 11th, 2019.

On digging further, we found that this website is a satirical website. There is a disclaimer at the bottom of the website which read, “the Fauxy is a Satire Web Portal. The content of this website is a work of fiction. Readers are advised not to confuse the articles of The Fauxy as genuine and true.”

Hence, the above information proves that the viral news is a piece of satire.
