With India’s northern most part receiving its first snowfall, winters have now been officially declared in India. With the mighty Himalayas in the north, there are many snow-clad places in India that are ideal for skiing.
Here is a list of some of the most popular skiing resorts in India.

Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir
Gulmarg has slopes for both professional skiers and beginners. It is a quaint little place in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir and is the 7th best skiing destination of Asia. It also has the famous “Gulmarg Gondola” which is the highest cable car in the whole world. The best time to visit the region is during the months of December to March.
It has regular flights, good road access and luxury accommodation and is just 90 minutes from Srinagar.

Solang Valley, Himachal Pradesh
Located 14km northwest of Manali, this is the next best skiing destination in India. It is a famous tourist spot also and many types of winter games are held here. This place can be visited at any time of the year but for ski lovers, winters is heaven for them.

Auli, Uttarakhand
It is the most pristine and scenic of spots, with a spectacular view of the Garhwal Himalayas. The only setback is the tedious journey to reach Auli. The nearest airport is Dehradun, which is a tiring 8 hours away. The epak season to visit Auli is January to March. The ski slopes here start at a height of 3,000m and stretch for 3km, with a drop-in elevation of 500m.

Pahalgam – Jammu and Kashmir
Pahalgam is a small town located in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. The place is very popular and has breath-taking views that make the mighty Himalayas so much more approachable. The best time to visit is in the months from December to March, when the snow is nice and thick. There are ample options for accommodation.

Munsiyari – Uttaranchal
The name refers to a ‘place with snow’. It is situated on the banks of the Goriganga river and is fast catching the fancy of tourists. Munsiyari also falls on the ancient salt route from Tibet and is at the entrance of the Johar Valley.
