Justice AP Sahi was administered the oath of office as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court by the Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit at the Raj Bhavan in Chennai.
The entire state cabinet headed by TN CM Edappadi Palaniswamy were present along with the Speaker of the TN Legislative Assembly and K Shanmugam, the Chief Secretary of the state.

Justice Sahi was earlier the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
The Chartered High Court established in accordance with the Indian High Courts Act, 1861 has been without a regular Chief Justice for more than two months. This was after Justice VK Tahilramani quit on September 6th, 2016 after being transferred by the President of India on the recommendations of the collegium to the Meghalaya High Court as the Chief Justice.
In the interim, Justice V Kothari was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice on September 21st.
