Fact Checked: Russian Prez Putin, PM Modi not visiting Tamil Nadu to witness ‘Jallikattu’

A claim is going viral on social media according to which Russian President Vladimir Putin will be visiting Tamil Nadu next year with PM Modi to witness the popular bull-taming sport ‘Jallikattu’.

Various Twitter users & MyNation also misreported and said “Tamil Nadu is all ready to host Vladimir Putin, the Russian president. If reports are to be believed, he will be in Tamil Nadu in January 2020.”

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be FAKE.

Press Information Bureau (PIB) Gujarat took to Twitter to dismiss reports that PM Modi and President Putin would attend Jallikattu in Madurai in January 2020, calling the reports, “fake news”.

Newswire, ANI, also confirmed that no such program had been scheduled.


Moreover the Supreme Court had banned Jallikattu in 2016. Hence, the above information proves that this viral post is FAKE.
