Maharashtra polls: Key takeaways from BJP’s and Shiv Sena’s manifestos

As Maharashtra elections are just less than a week away, all the contesting parties have released their manifestos. The BJP and Shiv Sena are contesting the polls with an alliance in the state.

The BJP with its smaller allies is contesting 164 seats of the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra while the Uddhav Thackeray-led party is fighting on 124 seats.

The saffron party has released its manifesto on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, with several promises from the creation of one crore jobs to internet connectivity to all. While the regional satrap Shiv Sena had released its manifesto on Saturday, October 12, 2019, promising meal at Rs 10 and reduction of electricity tariff by 30% among others.

Here are the takeaways from the manifestos of the two allies:

BJP

 

  • One crore jobs in the next five years, taking the state’s economy to USD 1 trillion
  • Home to every homeless family by 2022
  • Safe drinking water for all households
  • Internet connectivity in every household
  • 30,000 kilometres of new roads across Maharashtra
  • A drought-free Maharashtra in the next five years
  • Health tests for those turning 30
  • Solar power for more than 12 hours during the day time in all villages to run farm machinery
  • Rs 5 lakh crore investment in infrastructure
  • It promised to connect one crore families to self-help groups (SHGs) with the focus on creating employment for women
  • Proposed Bharat Ratna (country’s highest civilian award) for Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and also one for Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule

Shiv Sena

 

  • 1000 subsidised canteens across the state which will serve food for Rs 10
  • Reduction of electricity tariff by 30% for units up to 300
  • Special bus services for school and college students in villages
  • Rs 10,000 per year as financial aid to the needy farmers. Currently, a farmer receives the insurance money only if the crops of the entire village are destroyed
  • Making individual farmers beneficiaries of crop insurance scheme
  • Fixing the price of fertilizers
  • Farm loan waiver
  • Special scholarships to students of Classes 10 and 12, if they score over 80% in Marathi
  • Scholarships to 15 lakh youth
  • Health tests at Re 1
  • Chief Minister Shahar Sadak Yojana for better roads in cities
  • Plantation of mangroves in Mumbai and creation of urban forests
