Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump will be holding a bilateral meeting on Tuesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
The two leaders met earlier on Sunday and together addressed a community event ‘Howdy Modi’ in Houston.
An agreement related to defence cooperation and trade-related issues are on the anvil. Trade disputes threaten the relations between the two nations and it is an absolute must to sort them out at the earliest.
The Prime Minister is also expected to chair the Forum for India Pacific Islands Cooperation, a forum consisting of India and 14 other nations around the Pacific Ocean.
International Relations scholar and Oxford graduate, Jyotsna Mehra believes that this area is critical for India’s future economic interests. She expects maritime cooperation between India and this forum to be further fortified as a particular “Middle Kingdom” tries to disturb peace and tranquillity in the region in complete disregard for International Law.
India continues to assist members of this forum in matters related to sustainable development and environmental protection. The Prime Minister can urge these nations to join the recently launched Coalition for Disaster resilient infrastructure fund.
