Karti Chidambaram sends birthday wishes to his father with a tongue-in-cheek letter

Date:

As former Union Minister P Chidambaram spends his 74th birthday in Tihar jail, it is his son who has written a heartfelt letter to him with all the happenings from India and around the world mentioned in it. At the same time, he silently takes sharp digs at the government in a letter that is an all-bare one.

The senior Congress leader was sent to judicial custody on September 5 in connection with the INX Media case. Karti Chidambaram fondly addresses him as ‘appa’ in the letter.

The letter opens with a line referring to the “56-inch chest” comment by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his campaign in 2014: “You are turning 74 today and no 56!!!”

Karti touches upon various topics like Chandrayaan 2 launch, economic scenario, FM Nirmala Seetharaman, Jammu and Kashmir and each time tries to strike a resemblance with his father’s present state. He refers to the six-year low in GDP growth, the auto sector crisis and the security restrictions in Jammu and Kashmir since August 4. Finally, he writes about Rafael Nadal’s US Open win and how Chidambaram senior would have enjoyed the game.
