Congress on Wednesday appointed Kumari Selja as the president of party’s Haryana unit and former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda as Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader and chairman of the state election committee.
Selja, a Rajya Sabha MP, will replace Ashok Tanwar as Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) chief. The key appointments come days ahead of the legislative assembly elections in the state.
On being appointed as Haryana Congress president, she said: “It is a huge responsibility on my shoulders, all of us will have to work together. We are committed to the party’s ideology.”

A former Union minister, Selja, is a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) – the party’s highest decision-making body – and she is also close to interim chief Sonia Gandhi.

While former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda on being given a new charge said: “Party has taken a decision, I respect it. I thank Sonia ji for giving me this responsibility.”

Earlier, Hooda had hinted at quitting politics after supporting the Modi government on Article 370 abrogation.
