This woman is not the famous Parle-G girl; here’s the truth

Date:

A claim has been making rounds on social media for several years according to which “Neru Deshpandey (65 years old now) is the girl who was clicked for Parle-G biscuit when she was 4 years old.”

The claim is attached with a picture of an old lady.

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim we found it to be false.

Firstly, we cropped the picture of the lady and put it through Reverse Image Search, we found that the woman in the picture is Sudha Murty who is the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation. She is also the wife of Narayana Murthy.

Moreover, on digging further we also found that the picture of the girl on the pack Parle-G biscuit is actually an illustration and NOT a photograph of a girl.

Parle Products’ group product manager, Mayank Shah, was quoted in a report in which he denied all stories by saying that “the kid is just an illustration which was made in the 60s by Everest creative.”

Hence, this proves that the viral claim about the Parle-G girl is FAKE.
