Trump, NaMo to meet on the sidelines of G7 summit in France; here’s what to expect

PM Narendra Modi is all set to meet US President Donald Trump on Monday at 3:45 pm (IST) and the meeting is expected to continue till 4:30 pm on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Biarritz, France.
This will be the second meet between the two leaders in 2019 and comes two months after they met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan.

“The Prime Minister reached Biarritz in France, where he will take part in G-7 Summit. In addition to the multilateral components of the Summit, he would also be meeting world leaders in separate bilateral interactions,” the Prime Minister’s Office wrote on Twitter.

PM Modi and Trump are likely to discuss on a variety of topics that interest both the nations.
The situation in Kashmir and the abrogation of article 370 will be on top of the agenda, especially after Trump’s statement to reporters in the US, sometime back. He had said that he will hold discussions with PM Modi over the tense situation in Kashmir at the G7 summit in France. “I will be with Prime Minister Modi. I’ll be with him over the weekend in France. I think, we are helping (resolve the tense) situation (between India and Pakistan), Trump told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House.”

Other likely issues are –
Trade Issues between the two countries – resolving issues that have been impacting trade between the two countries will be discussed.

Ways to counter terrorism – PM Modi will stress upon the continued cross border terrorism from Pakistan and may reiterate the fact that Islamabad should be asked to stop terror attacks in India.
He will also talk about expanding Indo US cooperation in Defence.

PM Modi will also thank Donald Trump for US’s understanding on the Kashmir issue when India stated that it is an internal matter and they do not welcome any mediation.

Apart from this, earlier on Sunday, PM Modi and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres held “fruitful discussions” on a wide range of issues of mutual interest in Biarrit. Modi met Guterres on the sidelines of the G-7 Summit being held in this in this picturesque southwestern seaside French town. The prime minister arrived in Biarritz from Manama, the capital of Bahrain after concluding the first-ever prime ministerial visit to the Gulf nation.

“PM Narendra Modi met UN Secretary General Mr Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the G7 Summit. The two leaders had fruitful discussions on a wide range of subjects,” the Prime Minister’s Office tweeted.

“PM Narendra Modi met with UNSG Antonio Guterres on the margins of G7 summit in Biarritz. Good exchange of views on India’s participation at the Climate Action Summit at the UN and other issues of mutual interest,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.
After his France visit, PM Modi went to UAE and Bahrain where he met the top leadership and launched RuPay card and is back again in France for the G7 summit.
