‘No longer acceptable’: Trump’s new attack on India over tariffs on US products

Date:

At a juncture when the Trade Ministers of the two countries are all set to meet to settle the trade issue, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday resorted to Twitter diplomacy yet again, expressing his anger at tariffs by India on US products.

The US President wrote, “India has long had a field day putting Tariffs on American products. No longer acceptable!”

His comment comes barely two weeks after discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Japan’s Osaka.

Last month Trump had demanded India withdraw retaliatory tariffs imposed by New Delhi, calling the duties ‘unacceptable’ in a stern message that signalled the alarming deterioration of trade ties between the two nations.

India had slapped higher duties on 28 US products in June after the United States withdrew tariff-free entry for certain Indian goods.
