No! This woman was not arrested in Australia for wearing Burqa

Date:

A photo has surfaced on the internet in which a woman in Burka can be seen taken into police custody.

The claim attached to this picture is that she is being arrested for wearing a burka in Australia, where it is banned.

The caption of the photo read- “ऑस्ट्रेलिया में पर्दा करने पर गिरफ़्तारी| मगर सलाम है इस बेटी को जो कुफ्र केआगे डट गयी | गिरफ़्तारी दे दी मगर इस्लाम की लाज रख ली | सलाम आपकी अस्मत को इस्लामी बहन| अगर आप ने शेर ना की तो ना इन्साफी होगी”

(Translation- Imprisonment in Australia for wearing a burqa. But I salute this daughter who stayed in front of the Kufr. Got arrested but kept the honour of Islam. If you do not share the post, it will be unfair “)

The above post is shared by more than 37,000 Facebook users.

FACT CHECK

When we did a fact check and found that the claim is FAKE.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we found that the original picture was taken newswire AFP and it was used in an article by Presstv.com dated September 6, 2015.

The headline of the article read- “Spain nabs Moroccan teen suspected of recruiting for Daesh”

The caption of the photo read- “Spanish police arrest an 18-year-old Moroccan girl suspected of recruiting other women via the Internet for the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group in Gandia, September 5, 2015. (Photo by AFP)”

We also found that burqa is a debatable issue in Australia and Spain, but there is no ban on either of the countries.

The above information proves that the picture is taken in Spain and the woman is not being arrested for wearing Burqa.
