Today in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Lok Sabha. He was replying to the Motion of Thanks on President’s address and he touched upon several issues including the water crisis in the country, corruption, farmers and employment.

PM Modi also took pot shots at the opposition by bringing up the issue of the Emergency and how it was a blot on India’s democracy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke about NDA’s vision for the next five years for the country’s overall growth and prosperity.

Besides that, in the lower house of the Parliament, a war of words broke out between the ruling BJP and the opposition during the discussion.

Here are some major updates: 

  1. PM Modi said Emergency was blot on democracy, must never be forgotten. Urging to unite, he also said we have to hand hold our farmers.

2. PM Modi took a dig at the opposition, saying it no longer connected to its roots. “In their speeches, if they had even once mentioned Manmohan Singh, I would have had faith.”

3. On the triple talaq Bill, PM said, “Congress missed opportunities with uniform civil code and Shah Bano case. Now again there is an opportunity, and we have brought a bill for women’s empowerment. Please do not link it to religion.”

4. He also talked about water conservation, saying, “Water conservation is everybody’s responsibility. Our government created Jal Shakti ministry in view of the situation. I urge all, including NGOs, to spread awareness about the steps for water conservation.”

5. On the 44th anniversary of Emergency, Narendra Modi said, “A few people were constantly asking during the debate, ‘Who did it? Who did it? I want to ask them, today is 25th June. Who imposed the Emergency? Who trampled over the spirit of the Constitution, gagged the media and bullied the judiciary? We can’t forget those dark days.”

6. First-time TMC MPs Nusrat Jahan and Mimi Chakraborty took oath as Members of Parliament in Lok Sabha today in Bangla.

7. Kerala Congress (M) MP Thomas Chazhikadan raised the issue of resignation of RBI’s Deputy Governor Viral Acharya in Lok Sabha and alleged prominent economists are unable to work with the government as its policies are not in interest of the people.

8. During the debate on the Motion of Thanks in Lok Sabha, LJP leader Chirag Paswan expressed grief over the death children in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district due to acute encephalitis.

9. The Home Ministry Tuesday said in Lok Sabha that more than 700 terrorists have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir over the last three years.

10. NCP leader Supriya Sule raises the issue of Maharashtra drought in Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and OBC youth leader Jugalji Thakor file their nomination for Gujarat Rajya Sabha bypolls


On the other hand, the Supreme Court rejected Congress plea against separate Gujarat Rajya Sabha bypolls. Moreover, political leaders from across party lines pay tribute to BJP’s Rajasthan chief Madan Lal Saini.

The ongoing session, which began on June 17, will continue till July 26. The first session of Lok Sabha will provide 30 sittings spread over 40 days in Lok Sabha and 27 sittings spread over 37 days sittings in the Rajya Sabha.

The Economic Survey will be presented on July 4 followed by the Union Budget for 2019-20 on July 5.
