Andhra CM Jagan Mohan Reddy orders demolition of Praja Vedika built by Naidu

Date:

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has ordered the demolition of ‘Praja Vedika’ building in Amaravati, which was constructed next to the residence of former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

The demolition will begin on Wednesday. Praja Vedika (people’s grievance cell) was being used by Naidu for official purposes as well as to hold party meetings. It was built at a cost of Rs 5 crore in 2016.

After the TDP’s defeat in the recent Assembly elections, Naidu wrote to new Chief Minister Reddy on June 5, urging him to allocate the building to him in the capacity of Leader of Opposition. However, the government on Friday decided to take over the Praja Vedika, even as Naidu was holidaying abroad with his family members, and announced that the Collectors Conference will be held there.

Reddy’s YSRCP got the absolute majority in 175-member Assembly by winning 151 seats, while TDP won just 23 seats. In the Lok Sabha elections too, YSRCP bagged 22 seats while the TDP got just three seats out of total 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
