In a first of its kind episode, a woman who had boarded an Air Canada flight earlier this month, fell asleep after take-off and woke up to find herself alone in a dark aircraft, that had been parked after all the passengers and crew had deboarded.
Apparently, she had been forgotten!
Passenger, Tiffani Adams’s story was posted by a friend of hers on Air Canada’s Facebook page, after which it took the world by storm as many pointed fingers at Air Canada’s inefficiency.
According to the post, Adams was flying from Quebec to Toronto Pearson International Airport when she fell asleep. She thought herself lucky to have found a whole row of seats empty and decided to sleep off.
When she finally woke up, she was in ‘pitch black’, with the plane having landed and seemingly been towed away from the airport, after passengers and crew had disembarked.
“I think I’m having a bad dream (because) like seriously how is this happening,” she wrote. She tried to call a friend but the talk was cut short as the battery of her phone died.
She further added, “I’m trying to focus on my breathing and control my panic attack while I attempt to charge my phone by plugging into every USB port I could find.” This was of course of no use as the electricity to the plane had been turned off.
She managed to reach the cockpit and find a torch there. This helped her open the door but soon she realised that she was faced with a drop of 50 feet (15 meters) to get out of the plane.

She used the torch light to draw attention of a luggage cart driver, who arrived to find Adams with her legs hanging out of the plane’s open doorway.
“He is in shock, asking how the heck they left me on the plane,” she wrote. “I’m wondering the same.”
Post the episode became viral, Air Canada apologized for the incident and said it was reviewing the episode.
