Asphyxiation due to toxic fumes killed at least seven workers while cleaning the sewage line of a hotel in Fartikui village, 30 km from Vadodara city.
Out of the seven , three were hotel employees and the other four were sanitary sweepers. The hotel owner has gone into hiding after the police filed the case.

A district collector Kiran Zaveri told the Press Trust of India (PTI), “When one sanitation worker failed to come out of the manhole, others went inside. All of them died due to asphyxiation,”.
Police in their statement that a civic contractor had hired the labourers, but made no provisions for any protective gear.
