The lighthouse was built in 1862 and is a major tourist attraction. Tourista can visit between 3 pm to 4:30 pm on weekdays for INR 20 and INR 50 for foreigners.

Kathakali and Kalaripayattu
Kathakali is one of the seven classical dances of India and originated in Kerala. Tourists get a chance to watch the dance form live at an arts centre which hosts performances showcasing the stylised dance-drama. They can also indulge in and watch ‘Kalaripayattu’, an Indian martial art which has its roots in Kerala.
Backwaters
Backwaters of Kerala are an important iconic tourists spots and all across Alleppey. You can go for a ride and spend a day in a houseboat to enjoy the tranquil and peace of the water.
How to reach
The nearest airport to Alleppey is Cochin airport which is around 64 km from the place and Thiruvananthapuram International airport at a distance of 159 km. Travellers can also take the train to Alappuzha railway station. Buses are available from cities like Bangalore and Coimbatore and rail routes are linked to cities including Cochin, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Bokaro. You can also get a ferry ride from Kottayam or Nedumudy.
Weather
The climate is mostly hot and dry in the summer season and nice in winter months between December to February. The ideal time to visit is from October to March.
