Get a chance to Kayak for free in Denmark, all you need to do is ‘Pick up the trash’

Date:

Improper trash disposal has over the years, contaminated our water bodies and endangered marine life. A Denmark-based environmental group—GreenKayak, has come up with an amazing solution looking at this problem of waste and pollution. Travellers can kayak free as long as they pick up any trash that comes along the way to attract more tourists and get the trash cleared.

Godt det nu er væk! ✊Ude bag slusen i KBH ligger Fiskerhavnen.

EU recently banned single-use plastic items like bags and cutlery in order to curb the rising pollution issue.

There is no requirement for you to be an experienced Kayaker or even a swimmer, you just need to be an enthusiast. The group will provide you with the basic kayaking gear—a life vest and a paddle along with a trash picker and a bucket for keeping the collected garbage and two years of time to Kayak.

Tobias Weber-Andersen, one of GreenKayak’s co-founder spoke to USA Today and said, “In Denmark, people hang out on canals and eat pizza and unfortunately see trash floating by. You can’t take your shirt off and jump in, but you can get in a GreenKayak and make an impact.”

GreenKayakers, till now have collected over 24,000 pounds of trash including plastic bottles, shoes, lighters, tote bags, and etc. This programme is operational in cities throughout Ireland, Germany, Norway and Denmark.
