A video has surfaced on the internet in which newly elected Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is performing Pooja and claim has been attached that he has converted from Christianity to Hinduism.
The text in the caption of the video read: “Breaking news: Jagan Mohan Reddy CM of Andra Pradesh converts from Christianity to Hinduism.”
In a similar post, few pictures were also shared from the same event and the same claim was made.

The post read: “Finally Shri Jagan Mohan Reddy converted to Hindu Religion after failed attempts with Shankaracharya Jayendra Sarswati of Kanchi Kamkoti Pitam for last 2 years. Jayendra Saraswati refused to convert him saying that if he brings back Hindus converted to Christianity by his father Ex CM of united A. P. Rajshekhar Reddy and family back to Hindu fold then only he will perform conversion process. Then he approached Shankaracharya of Sharada Pitam who agreed to perform conversion process and finally converted to Hindu ism. See photos below.”
FACT CHECK
When NewsMobile came across the above posts, we found the claims to be FAKE.
On putting the viral picture through Reverse Image Search, we found that the above pictures and the video is from August 2016 when Jagan Mohan Reddy had performed ‘Homam’, a Hindu ritual, in Rishikesh for special category status for Andhra Pradesh.
We found a video while Reddy was performing the ritual on Sakshi TV’s official YouTube channel dated August 10, 2016.
Hence, this proves that the above claim is FAKE and Reddy has not converted to Hinduism.
