A devastating fire broke out at a coaching centre in Surat in Gujarat on Friday evening in which 17 students tragically died in the fire.
Official sources said some of the students died in the fire while others jumped off the building in panic and died due to the fall.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani ordered an investigation into the tragedy and the Principal Secretary of Urban Development rushed to Surat immediately.

A sum of Rs 4 lakh will be provided to families of the students.
Shocked by the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on his tweeter handle: “Extremely anguished by the fire tragedy in Surat. My thoughts are with bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly. Have asked the Gujarat government and local authorities to provide all possible assistance to those affected.”
The rescue operations are underway.
