Instagram now uses Facebook fact-checkers to keep off fake images

With the elections season going on, the amount of fake news that is being circulated has gone up considerably.

To curb the spread of false information, Facebook’s fact-checking exercise is now running on Instagram.

According to Poynter, Instagram has started applying Facebook’s fact checks to keep false photos and memes under check on its platform. Instagram is also considering adding pop-up alerts when people search for anti-vaccine misinformation.

To identify and reduce the distribution of false or misleading information or image, Instagram is using image recognition technology and automatic action to remove the false posts from the Explore tab and hashtag result pages.
