New York is known for its faced paced life, popular attractions like the Times Square, Central Park, The Empire State Building and amazing food. Street food is served on carts like simple fast food items like hot dog and bagel along with coffee. Here to add a little spice in the mix, is Thiru Kumar or the ‘Dosa Man’.
The man has earned the titled and rightly so as he makes the best dosas in New York City and is the owner of NY Dosas. New Yorkers line up to get a taste of his dosa from 12 from Monday to Saturday in Washington Square Park.

The magic of these dosas in New York not only pull the locals but also Indian tourists, who make it a point to explore the city and try their hands at the authentic Indian food.
Bhaven Kamdar, a tourist from Kolkata, India said that he made it a point to travel 8 stations to try Thiru Kumar’s dosa.

Thiru has garnered 18 years of success and loyal customers along with fans from across the globe like Japan, Singapore and so on. He has been profiled and listed in over 40 different guide books for NYC.
Thiru says, ” My purpose is to provide quality food for everyone irrespective of whether they are rich or poor. The food costs less than $10 and tastes well and is vegan.” (sic)
Thiru’s most popular dosa is the Special Pondicherry dosa, has potatoes and a vegetable mix, served with a hot steaming cup of Sambar. He also prepares a ‘Samosa Dosa’ which is basically chopped up samosa on the rice batter and it is crunchy and nice.
The best part is that he is the only chef of the cart but gets some extra help from volunteers and friends around when there is a huge queue of people. NYU students to workers help him out whenever possible and required. Besides dosas, there is also mix veg uttapam and a full lunch with mini dosas. He has a huge customer base and sells out by the afternoon.
