Fact Checked: Mortal remains of recent naxal attack martyrs were not wrapped in cardboard

Date:

A picture of mortal remains of security personnel covered with plastic, wrapped in cardboard is going viral on social media.

The caption claims that they are the mortal remains of the 15 police personnel and a driver who got martyred in a cowardly attack by Naxals on May 1 in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra.

the caption read.

(Translation –  Shame on you!
The martyred soldiers in Gadchiroli were not even given coffins. They were wrapped in cardboard and plastic. Look at these fake nationalist to ask votes in the name of Martyrs. In reality, the murderers of our soldiers and the true enemy of the nation are nobody else but the BJP ministers and the government.

I feel ashamed of this government. Thank you. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat)

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile team fact-checked the claim, we found that the claim is fake as the pictures being circulated is old.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we came across some news reports dated back in 2017. According to the reports, the pictures are of the mortal remains of the seven armed personnel, killed when the Mi-17 V5 chopper crashed in 2017.

The images were also tweeted by IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt and Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh.

The image was also shared by ex-Northern Army commander Lt Gen (Retd) HS Panag.

Later, the Indian army clarified that the mortal remains that were wrapped in local resources were an aberration.

As for the security personnel who lost their lives in the IED blast attack by Naxals, newswire ANI posted the pictures of the wreath-laying ceremony on May 2, 2019.

The above information proves that the old pictures are being recirculated with a false claim.
