PM Modi’s wife did not urge voters to vote against him; here’s the fact check

Date:

A picture Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s estranged wife Jashodaben is making rounds on social media in which she can be seen holding a placard appealing people to NOT vote for PM Modi in the ongoing 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The text on the placard read: “मेरे पति नरेंद्र मोदी को 2019 में वोट दे के फिर से देश को बर्बाद मत करना जिसने अपनी पत्नी को बर्बाद कर दिया वो देश को क्या छोड़ेगा|”

(Translation: Do not ruin the country again by voting for my husband Narendra Modi in 2019)

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile came across the post, we fact-checked it and found that it is FAKE.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we found the original picture in which Jashodaben was holding a document and not the placard.

The picture was taken in February 2016 when Jashodaben’s passport application was returned by the regional officer in Gujarat for not presenting the marriage certificate and she had filed an RTI. The document in her hand is the copy of the RTI she had filed.

Further, in the above REAL vs FAKE collage, it is very clear that the placard was superimposed on the real picture using photoshop software.
