Here’s the truth behind this viral picture of Indira Gandhi and Kiran Bedi

Date:

A picture of India’s first woman Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi and first woman IPS officer, Kiran Bedi is going viral on social media.

The caption accompanying the picture claims that the picture was taken when Indira Gandhi invited Kiran Bedi for lunch to honour her courage after she towed away a car that belonged to the Prime Minister’s Office.

It also draws a comparison between that incident and the recent incident where an IAS officer was suspended for checking Modi’s chopper.

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile fact-checked the viral claim, we found out that the claim is FALSE.

When we put the image through Google Reverse Image Search, we found a tweet by Kiran Bedi which was posted on November 19, 2018. The caption read, “Remembering this breakfast meeting with Mrs Indira Gandhi in Jan 1975.
It is her birth anniversary today.
Have fond memories of this day and years of serving her.

Another tweet by her, posted on November 19, 2017, carried the same picture.
the caption in the picture read- “Invited to breakfast with Prime Minister Indira Gandhi after leading the republic day parade.”

Moreover, the towing incident took place in 1982, seven years after this picture was taken.

This proves that the claim attributed to the picture is false.
