It does hurt: DS Hooda condemns Pragya Thakur’s remark on Hemant Karkare

Date:

Lt General (Retd) DS Hooda on Sunday condemned the remarks of Malegaon blast accused and BJP Lok Sabha candidate Pragya Thakur on former Mumbai ATS chief late Hemant Karkare.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Hooda said, “Yes, it does hurt when such things are said about a martyr, be it from the Army or the Police, full respect should be given. These utterances are not good.”

In a comment that has courted controversy, Thakur had said earlier that Karkare lost his life because she had cursed him.

“I called Hemant Karkare and asked him to let me go if there is no evidence (against me). He (Karkare) said that he will bring evidence but will not leave me. I told him — You will be ruined,” Thakur had said.

Pragya courted another controversy on Sunday in her new remarks, saying she takes pride in the Babri Masjid demolition.

“We do not regret but are proud of demolishing the Babri Masjid. We removed the waste from our Lord Ram’s temple,” said the BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Bhopal, following which the Election Commission has issued a notice to her and sought an explanation in a day over her remarks.

Pragya Thakur has been pitted against Congress leader Digvijay Singh in Bhopal parliamentary constituency. It will go to polls on May 12, and results for all the 543 Lok Sabha seats will be announced on May 23.
