Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad to contest independently from Bihar’s Madhubani Lok Sabha seat

Congress leader and senior spokesperson Shakeel Ahmad on Monday resigned from his post and said he will contest the Lok Sabha elections as an Independent candidate from Madhubani Lok Sabha seat in Bihar.

Announcing his decision, he wrote on Twitter, “As I have decided to file my nomination papers tomorrow from Madhubani Parliamentary Constituency in Bihar, I’m resigning from the post of Senior Spokesperson of AICC. I’m sending my resignation to Congress President Shri Rahul Gandhi.”

Ahmad, who was reportedly unhappy after his traditional seat of Madhubani went to ally VIP under a seat-sharing formula of the Bihar grand alliance, said he will file his nomination papers on Tuesday.

As per the seat-sharing formula of the grand alliance, the Congress is contesting nine of 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, the RJD on 19 and remaining seats have been given to allies RLSP, HAM and VIP.

Bihar sends 40 MPs to the lower house of the parliament. In the first of the seven-phase Lok Sabha polls, four parliamentary constituencies in the state went to poll.

It will further witness polls on April 18, 23, 29, and May 6, 12, 19 for the remaining 36 Lok Sabha seats. Results will be announced on May 23.
