Stepping up its attack, the Congress on Saturday reiterated its ‘Chowkidar chor hai’ jibe aimed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi hours after French national newspaper Le Monde reported that French authorities waived off Anil Ambani’s taxes worth millions after the announcement of the Rafale jet deal in 2015.
Addressing a press conference, Congress national spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, “This morning, a French newspaper published a sensational report on the Rafale deal. Is PM Modi working as a middleman for ‘double-A [Anil Ambani]’? Chowkidar chor hai [The watchman is a thief] and his theft has been caught.”
“After the Rafale deal was signed, Anil Ambani’s 143 million tax was waived off and he only paid seven million tax. Modi hai toh mumkin hai [Modi makes it possible],” Surjewala added.
